Silicon (Si) monocrystal is a chemically inert material with high hardness and insoluble in water. It has good light transmittance in the 1-7 nm band, and also has good light transmittance in the far infrared band 300-300 nm, which is a characteristic that other optical infrared materials do not have. Silicon (Si) monocrystalline crystals are commonly used as substrates for 3-5μm medium-wave infrared optical Windows and optical filters. Because the material has good thermal conductivity and low density, it is also a common material for making laser reflector or infrared temperature measurement and infrared optical lens.

 

Product features

 

The product is suitable for the near infrared band of 1.2nm-8 nm region. Because silicon has a low density (its density is half that of germanium or zinc selenide), it is very suitable for applications sensitive to weight requirements, especially in the 3-5μm band. Silicon has a knoop hardness of 1150 and is harder than germanium, which is not brittle. However, due to its strong absorption band at 9 μm, it is not suitable for transmission applications of CO2 lasers.
